OHS Wins N Central Envirothon Contest



With strong finishes in all seven areas of competition, Ord High School placed first at teh North Central Region Envirothon Contest at Central Community College-Platte Campus in Columbus on March 5th. 

The Ord High Team of Taylor Hornickel, Sydney Boden, Hannah Wadas,Elizabeth Gronewald and Molli Hagge scored 115 points.  The Aurora team of Elizabeth McDonald, Saveanna Epp, Brock Henderson, Austin Vollmer and Jared Boehle finished second with 113 points and Boone Central team was third with 103 points.  The 17 teams taking part in the competition also included Ashland-Greenwood, Fullerton, Hampton, Howells-Dodge-Clarkson, Humphrey, Columbus Lakeview, Palmer, Schuyler, and Twin River.

In Envirothon, students test their knowledge on a wide aray of subjects relating to natural resources and the environment.  The areas of competition are forestry, range, natural resources and the environment.  The areas of competition of forestry, range, natural sustainable rangeland management.

The Ord team's advisor is Dave Ference.  As the region winner, Ord automatically qualifies for the Nebraska State Envirothon at the Chalco Hills Recreation Area in Omaha on May 4th.
The Lower Loup Natural Resources District sponsors the North Central Region Envirothon Contest.  The Envirothon program is designated to educate students about the natural enviroment, resources management, and ecology.
