A poster contest for fourth grade students in Nebraska as part of severe weather awareness week which is March 25-29thand observed to increase awareness of, and response to, severe weather hazards. Fourth graders from across the state were encouraged to create a poster for severe weather making a safely plan and reviewing safety precautions. Jerome Silva, age 9, of St. Paul Elementary School earned a second place for his poster that featured items needed in an emergency kit and information on tornado watches and warnings. Posters were judged on originality, effort and accuracy. Silva won $100and a radio. Honorable mention certificates were awarded to: Claire Gideon of Burwell , Talyla Goettsche of St. Paul, Abigail Lewis of Loup County, Camryn Morgan of St. Paul, and Grace Olson of Bassett.
