Mary K. Hanson, 88, of rural Ord passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Ord First United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Ord First United Methodist Church or Valley County Health System Hospice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mary was born November 5, 1924, at Ord, Nebraska to Bohumil and Kristina (Ploch) Kominek. She was raised in Ord where she received her education and graduated from Ord High School in 1942.
On September 12, 1943, Mary was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lyle Hanson. The couple made their home on the farm in the Springdale and Noble townships of Valley County. Mary worked at the Valley County Extension Office and Carson’s IGA until her retirement in 1998.
Mr. Hanson passed away September 14, 2010. The Hanson’s had been married for 67 years. Mary continued to make her home on the farm until her passing.
Mary was a member of the Ord First United Methodist Church and Springdale Kinsington Extension Club. She enjoyed vacationing with her family and friends. She attended numerous sporting events for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, watching Nebraska Volleyball, gardening and baking with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with the neighbors and helping at church activities.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Millard D. and Adela Hanson of Omaha; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Julie A. and Kelly Foth and Lori L. and Bill Wadas all of Ord; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Kristina and John Masur of Omaha and a sister-in-law, Claire (Mrs. Joseph) Kominek Vallejo, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle and a brother, Joseph Kominek.
