Alice Ann Taylor, 90, of Burwell, Nebraska died January 16, 2012 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Burwell. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Make A Wish Foundation.
Alice Ann was born January 1, 1922 in Phelps County, Nebraska to Verne Perry and Eulalia Johnson Vandell. She graduated from Holdrege High School. After graduation she worked at the ASC office in Holdrege.
Alice Ann married Jack Donald Taylor on April 21, 1946 in Funk, Nebraska. They lived in Valley, Nebraska and then in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Jack and Alice Ann had 2 children, John and Patty. Alice Ann was a homemaker and did bookkeeping for the Elkhorn School District.
Alice Ann enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, and feeding the birds. She was active in church attending Bible study, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. After retirement she and Jack traveled, spending winters in South Padre Island in Texas, and volunteered at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. She and Jack moved to Burwell, Nebraska in 2003 to be closer to their daughter Patty. Jack died on May 17, 2007.
Alice Ann is survived by a daughter Patty and Tom DeGroff of Burwell, Nebraska. Five grandchildren; Perry and Elizabeth DeGroff of Pierce, Nebraska, Matthew DeGroff of Grafton, Wisconsin, Amy and Mike Greengard of Andover, Minnesota, Jake Taylor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Joshua Taylor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Six great-grandchildren; Tyler, Dylan and Jessica DeGroff of Pierce, Nebraska, Madeline and Zachary Greengard of Andover, Minnesota and Kelsi Chesney of Los Angeles, California. A brother-in-law, Bob and Phyllis Vandell of Funk, Nebraska. A sister-in-law, Kathy Vandell of Holdrege, Nebraska and a brother-in-law, William R. Taylor of Burwell, Nebraska.
Alice Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son John Taylor and a brother, Bill Vandell.
