Betty Vodehnal 85 of Ord passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Valley County Health System Hospital at Ord.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Ord Christian Church with Rev. Greg Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be given to the Ord Christian Church or the Ord Senior Center. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Betty June Vodehnal was born February 27, 1925 in Garfield County to Frank and Anna (Kokes) Stanek. She was raised in Garfield County 2 miles east of Burwell. She attended the Disrtict 14 rural school and graduated from Burwell High School in 1942.
Betty was married to Gordon Ziegler on June 26, 1942, they lived in Wahoo and Omaha for 1 year, then moved to a farm northwest of Burwell. Gordon passed away October 16, 1964. Betty continued living on the farm with help of her children until she married Rudolph Vodehnal on June 16, 1968. After her children were grown and away from home she attended school at Kearney State College to become an L.P. N. She worked at the Valley County Hospital and Nursing Home for 19 years retiring in 1993. After 6 weeks of retirement she started working as assistant cook at the Ord Senior Center until 2007.
Betty was a member of the Ord Christian Church; the Christian Women’s Group; ZCBJ Lodge; and was on the Board of Directors of the Ord Senior Center. She had also been a member of the Kent Corner Club.
Betty’s hobbies included rug making, playing scrabble, playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, exercising and gardening. She enjoyed her family; attending church and church activities.
Survivors include two sons and daughter in laws Jim and Bonita Ziegler of Burwell; Bill and Candi Ziegler of Ericson; two daughters and son in law, Particia Glos of Bethune, Colo., and Rhonda and Darrell Miller of Elgin, NE. 13 Grandchildren; 19 Great-Grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husbands; three sisters Agnes, Emma and Josie; a son in law Syl Glos and a grandson Jesse Ziegler.
