Carl Ernest Schauer, 78, of Ord, Nebraska died Sunday, July 22, 2012 peacefully at his home in Ord.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the Ord First United Methodist Church with Pastors Jeff Wulf and Greg Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in North Loup. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Ord First United Methodist Church and Valley County Health System Hospice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Carl was born February 11, 1934, on the County Poor Farm in Olean, Valley County, Nebraska to William and Della (Marks) Schauer. Carl attended numerous Valley County country school districts, and graduated from North Loup High School in 1953. After graduating high school, he worked on the Eugene Petska farm.
On May 22, 1955, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Charlene May Mulligan, at the First United Methodist Church in Ord. During their marriage, they resided in rural North Loup, Chambers, Bartlett, and returned to Ord in 1967, where he was employed at Frank’s Standard Service. Carl and Charlene took over ownership of the station as Carl’s Standard Service in 1975, and purchased the tank wagon service from Ray Shotkoski in 1977. He was also the dealer for Homelite Chainsaws. He enjoyed his customers, knowing if they left with a smile, they would come back again. Carl was known for the jokes and stories he told, and friends, family and neighbors would stop in not only for gas or service but just to visit.
Carl was a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge #90. He joined the First Methodist Church in Ord in 1953, was a member of the Methodist Church while residing in Bartlett, and returned his membership to Ord First Methodist Church in 1967.
In 1991, after his father’s death, they purchased the Schauer family farm north of North Loup in the Olean district. One of his greatest joys in life was owning the farm and being able to work the land and proudly watch his crops grow, often saying, “I wish my dad could see these beans and corn.”
His family was very important to him, and he enjoyed every gathering with pride. The tradition of holding hands in a circle while grace was being offered and counting the number of family members present filled his heart with love. The blessing of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren filled his heart with love.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene; his children and their spouses, Connie and Dennis Hansen, of Lincoln, Curtis and Susan Schauer of North Loup, Carla Korth and Jim Brezina of David City, Caren Ammon of Ainsworth, and Colleen and Harlan Hansen of Scotia; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Elaine Hansen, Crystal and Jasen Hardnock, Jon and Jennifer Schauer, Matthew and Melissa Schauer, Caleb and Becky Schauer, Christie Schauer, Doug and Bridget Korth, Sheri and Tim Jelinek, Tony and Maylin Ammon, Misty and Ryan Zulkoski, Lance Hansen, and Shane Hansen; and sixteen great-grandchildren: Katie, Hunter, and Logan; Abigail, Dayton, and Lila; Brittany, Dylan, Madilyn, and Brooke; Patrick, Kensley, Jaiden, and Preston; and Ryker and Moriyah, and two expected; first cousins, Charlie Kriewald and Kay Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, two brothers, Billy M. and Lynn I. Schauer, a sister-in-law, Lynda Schauer, and aunts, Helen (Art) Jensen and Myrtle (Silas) Kriewald.
you will be missed always ,if some one was not your friend it was just because you hadnt met them yet , making people feel welcome and wanted was indeed your gift and laughter was the medicine most prescribed ,your family values and work ethic are reflected in the children you raised ,god bless and rest in peace big guy love you
