Charlotte Ann Manchester, 76, of Ord died Sept. 22, 2012, at the Valley View Living Center at Ord.
Charlotte’s wishes were to be cremated. Private family gather services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Family. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Charlotte was born October 6, 1935, in Howard County, NE to Anton and Albina (Sevcik) Batorski. She spent her childhood on a farm near Dannebrog and attended rural school district #8 in Howard County and graduated from St. Paul High School.
Charlotte married Dale Manchester on June 23, 1954, at Council Bluffs, NE. They lived in Florida, California and Colorado before settling in Broken Bow, NE. In 1967, the couple moved to Ord. Charlotte had worked as a waitress and cook at Douthit’s Diner until the mid 1980’s. She later worked as a waitress and cook at other locations in Ord. Charlotte worked at the Ord Veterans Club until 2004, when she quit to care for her husband and his failing health.
In December of 2005, Charlotte underwent surgery for lung cancer and in April of 2008, for a brain tumor. In June of 2011, she had another surgery and became a resident at the Valley View Living Center until her passing.
Charlotte enjoyed gardening, fishing, painting, antiques, and flea markets. She loved animals and enjoyed being entertained by her 8 cats.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Manchester Sr. of Ord; one son and daughter in law, Dale and Diane Manchester Jr. of Kearney, NE; a daughter, Deb Waits and her fiancé, Monte Hansen of Ord; four grandchildren, Daric Manchester of Ord, Amber Waits of Ord, and her significant other, Jeff Chelewski, Rachel Wichmann and her husband, Cedric of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Melissa Manchester of Ord; four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her special friends, John and Mary Ellen Shunneson of Taylor, NE.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Rose Marie “Toni” Derr and Doris Lassen
