Dorothy Mae Brown, 84, of Burwell, Nebraska died July 16, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
Dorothy was born September 12, 1927 in Garfield County, Nebraska to Claus and Sophia (Stange) Rohde. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1945.
Dorothy married Sidney Eugene Brown on June 28, 1947 in Burwell. After they were married they moved to Cozad, Nebraska. They also lived in Ord, Fullerton, Genoa and Madison. Dorothy worked as a secretary and clerk at various places. Sidney died in 1989. Dorothy moved to Burwell in 1993. She enjoyed sewing, Crossword puzzles and spending time with her twin sister, Doris.
Dorothy is survived by her two children; Ron and Polly Brown of Farragut, Iowa and Janet Zelazny of Genoa, Nebraska. Seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and four sisters; Caroline Mentzer of Ord, Nebraska, her twin Doris Brown of Burwell, Nebraska, Mary and Larry Coffee of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and Ruth Venturelli of Annapolis, Maryland.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, Otto, Henry, Frank and John. A son-in-law, Marvin Zelazny and a great-granddaughter, Kylie Brown.
