Gladys Annie Jarvis Hyde, 98

Gladys Annie Jarvis Hyde, 98, of Taylor, Nebraska passed away on Monday morning, June 18, 2012 at the Valley County Health Systems Hospital in Ord, Nebraska.

Gladys was born to Millard F. and Annie M. Jarvis on February 25, 1914 at their home in Loup County (Dry Valley), Nebraska.

She attended grade school at Dry Valley and upon the death of her father the family moved to Taylor where she graduated from high school in 1932.

Gladys and D. Wayne Hyde were married at Holdrege, Nebraska on November 11, 1934. She and Wayne raised their children David, Carrie and Annelda on the family ranch in Loup County, Nebraska.

Gladys was a member of the Clever Clique club for 47 years. She was active in the Order of the Easter Star, school and 4-H activities and helping with the blood drive in Burwell. She had various interests including traveling, gardening, reading, cross word puzzles, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and visiting with family and friends. She was the Queen of the Loup County Fair – the oldest person in Loup County in 2008. In 2009 she was presented the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award celebrating continued ownership of the The Hyde Ranch for 114 years. Gladys will be remembered for her gentle spirit, kind heart and her smile could light up the room.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Annelda Helzer (Delbert) of Loveland, Colorado, daughter-in-law, Donna Hyde of Ord, Nebraska, son-in-law, Max Marr of Loveland, Colorado, sisters-in-law, Lois Wilkin of Kearney, Nebraska and Marcia Hyde Des Moines, Iowa. Six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, son, David, daughter, Carrie Marr, granddaughter, Jessica Marr, parents, and siblings.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Madison Square Cemetery west of Taylor, Nebraska. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the Loup County Historical Society or the Taylor Public Library.
