Gwendolyn Ilene “Gwen” Schrier, 81, of Burwell, Nebraska died October 26, 2011 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Fr. Tom Ryan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Gwendolyn was born June 30, 2011 to John and Clara (Sullivan) Smyers at Central City, Nebraska. She received her schooling and graduated from high school in Central City.
Gwendolyn marred Donald Paul Schrier on September 21, 1950 in Central City. They lived in Columbus, Nebraska for a number of years where Gwen was a stay at home mom. They then lived in Bellwood, Nebraska for two years until the mid 1960’s when they moved to Central City. After retiring in 1994 they moved to Burwell near the Calamus Lake. Don died on July 16, 2002.
Gwen worked in health care as a CNA as well as various other jobs. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Calamus Lake Association. Gwen enjoyed her friends and having coffee.
Gwendolyn is survived by five children: Joe and Kathleen Schrier of Castle Rock, Colorado, Theresa and Gary Farnik of Norfolk, Nebraska, Mark and Martha Schrier of Guam, Alan and Lisa Schrier of Omaha, Nebraska and Dan Schrier of Grand Island, Nebraska and ten grandchildren.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don and one brother, Ken Smyers.
