Joseph W. Hosek, 99 of Ord died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord with Father Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Donor’s Choice or in care of the family.
Joseph William was born August 22, 1910 in Valley County near Arcadia, Nebraska to Frank J. and Frances A. (Babka) Hosek. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Arcadia and attended school at Old Yale Country School.
On April 22, 1941, Joe was united in marriage to Minnie Ann Sich at the Geranium Catholic Church west of Ord.
Joe farmed in the Geranium Township of Valley County and then returned to his family’s farmstead northeast of Arcadia. Joe and Minnie lived on the farm until moving into Ord where they have resided for the past 17 years.
Joe was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, building bird houses, listening to polka music and watching boxing on TV. He was a faithful viewer of the Mother Angelica nightly rosary.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Ord; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sandy Hosek of Lincoln and Ronald and Diane Hosek of Carmel, IN; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mark Sapp of Hickman, NE; ten grandchildren, Michael (Jessica), Jeremy (Renee) and Mark (Janna) Hosek, Kristina (Noah) Jacobson, Stacy (J.D.) Graff, Anne, Jennifer and Ryan Hosek, and Paige and Lucas Sapp; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Adolph and Dorothy Hosek of Lincoln; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Keith Richards; four sisters-in-law, Kathy Hosek, Marcy Hosek, Dorothy Barr and Etta Mae Pesha; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Anna Bonne, Emma Blaha, Lydia Kovarik; and two brothers, Edward and Alfred Hosek.
