Larry Lee Wajda, 63 of Ord died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the Veterans Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Pastor Doug Olson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Ord VFW Post #7029 and American Legion Post #38. Mr. Wajda’s body will be bequeathed to the Anatomical Board following the service. Visitation will be prior to the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire Department. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Larry Lee was born September 21, 1946, at Loup City Nebraska to Louis L. and Vivian J. (Drake-Hodgson) Wajda. He was raised in rural Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1965.
Mr. Wajda served in the United States Air Force from August of 1965 until August of 1969. He was in combat during the Vietnam War and also earned a degree in Diesel Mechanics while in the service.
Larry worked as a heavy diesel mechanic for over 35 years. His work led him to many of the western states which included Arizona where he resided from many years. For the past four years he has resided in Ord. While in Ord he worked at the Co-op and retired last fall after the harvest.
Larry was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed reading books and watching movies.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Jim Phillips of Florida; his parents, Louis and Vivian Wajda of Ord; five grandchildren, Jeff, Morgan, Kyle, Jamie and Casey; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Connie and Lonnie John of Grand Island and Rowena Edmonds of Elba; four nieces and one nephew.
