Lillian J. Benson, 82 of North Loup died Thursday, July 01, 2010, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia with Pastor Mark Middendorf officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Scotia. Visitation will be prior to the funeral services on Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church, Klanecky 5 Scholarship Fund or the Family. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Jean was born February 25, 1928, in Valley County, Nebraska to William Joseph and Veronica Matilda “Froney” (Adamek) Klanecky. She grew up and attended rural school in Valley County and graduated from Ord High School in 1945. After receiving her teaching certificate she taught school in Valley County.

On June 5, 1948 Lillian was united in marriage to Norris W. Benson at Ord, Nebraska. The couple made their home on various farms in Valley County. In 1951, they moved to Cotesfield where they farmed for 13 years before moving to the Davis Creek area where they farmed for 21 years. When Mr. Benson retired from farming in 1985, the couple moved northeast of North Loup.

Lillian worked in various capacities, including Cetak’s Grocery Store in Ord, Scotia Coop and as a nurse’s aide at the Ord Hospital. She was last employed at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia as the custodian.

Mr. Benson passed away May 4, 1997. In 1998, Lillian moved to the NoLo Villa at North Loup. Since May of 2009 she has made her home at the Greeley Care Home.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Scotia where she also belonged to the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Professional Business Women, and served on the NoLo Villa Housing Board. Lillian enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards, bowling and polka dancing.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mildred Benson of Fremont and Richard and Denise Benson of Scotia; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Wayne Rakosky and Bonnie and Ron Wells of Cotesfield; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Mrs. Leon) Klanecky of Ord and Geneva (Mrs. Paul) Petska of Hastings; two brothers-in-law, Dallas Benson of Butte, MT and Leon Foulk of Ericson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norris; a son, Douglas Benson; three brothers, William F. “Billy”, Robert “Leonard” and Leon E. Klanecky; and two sisters, Wilma (Mrs. Leon) Foulk and Norma (Mrs. Gerald) Krikac.
