Marie A. Marco, 98 of Greeley died Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Greeley Care Home in Greeley, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley with Father Sidney Bruggeman officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Greeley. Visitation will be on Friday at the church from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice. T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Agnes was born May 20, 1912, on a farm near Greeley, Nebraska to J. Ambrose and Elizabeth (Kinsella) Whalen. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Greeley High School in 1929. She then continued her education at Kearney State Teacher’s College.

On June 25, 1934, Marie was united in marriage to Robert A. Marco at the O’Connor Catholic Church. To this union five children were born. The family lived in Wolbach and moved to Greeley in 1940. Marie taught school in Greeley and Howard counties for 40 years.

Marie worked hard for many years but also enjoyed fishing, horse races, playing bingo and cards. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Greeley and was a devoted Catholic.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Edna Marco of Schuyler and Ray and Sharon Marco of Ralston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ruth Neumann of Bellevue, Charlotte and Larry Murphy of Greeley and Maxine and Harry Bassett of Omaha, 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Eileen Whalen of Greeley; many nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert “Bob” Marco who passed away in 1987; three brothers, Jack, Bert and Rollie Whalen; one sister, Ethel Rother; a grandson, David Brian Bassett and a son-in-law, Roy Neumann.
