Marilyn M. Walker, 85 of Ord died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Health System Hospital in Kearney.
Her life will be celebrated from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. During that time the family will receive friends and a viewing will be held with cremation to follow. Memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn Margaret was born March 2, 1927, at Pawnee City, Nebraska to Arthur E. and Esther (Meier) Hildebrand. She was raised in Pawnee City where she received her early education at a country school and graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1945. Marilyn continued her education and graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce.
While living in Lincoln, Marilyn worked for 11 years at UNL in the Purchasing Department until 1959. On September 3, 1950, Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald D. Walker at Pawnee City, Nebraska. The couple made their first home in Lincoln and during that time adopted two children. In 1964, the family moved to Ord and in 1967, they purchased an acreage southwest of Ord where they resided until August of 2011, when they moved into Grandview Assisted and Independent Living Center. Don and Marilyn purchased Ringlein’s Drug store in 1964, and changed the name to Walker Drug. The couple owned and operated Walker Drug until it closed in 1989.
Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Women and a lifetime member of the American Paint Horse Association. She enjoyed horses and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Walker of Ord; a daughter, Kate Walker of Kearney; a son, Duane Walker of McKinney, TX; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
