Marvin was born on August 29, 1926 to Lynn and Edna (Stam) Collins in Ord, NE, he was the youngest of five children.
Marvin, a life time resident of Valley County, attended District #57 School in Mira Valley through the eighth grade, then District # 10 grades nine and ten, then Ord High School graduating in 1944. After his father’s death in 1937 and his brother’s death in 1938, he operated the family farm with his mother and sisters during his school years.
On December 25, 1948, he married Evelyn Page in North Loup, NE. They continued farming in Mira Valley until late 1959 when Marvin worked for National Alfalfa for five years. They then moved to Maiden Valley in 1961 where he raised cattle and worked at the alfalfa mill. In 1967 he and Evelyn worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant until 1969. He expanded his cattle operation during that time and then moved to his present home in 1977, retiring from a lifetime of farming and raising cattle in 1993. He liked to meet new people and travel to visit relatives and friends he had made over the years. Playing cards and later attending the horse races, helping friends and neighbors, always doing one thing or another. After caring for his wife until her death in 2003, he still was very active until his health started to change in 2005. One thing, then another started to change, but he didn’t change his ways other than stopping to travel. His greatest joy was grandchildren and great-grandchildren always talking about their accomplishments.
He was a lifetime member of the Mira Valley Evangelical United Methodist Church, The Ord Elks Lodge # 2371, and The Odd Fellows, I.O.O.F. Lodge #90.
