Patricia “Pat” L. Benda, 87 of Ord died Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.
Mrs. Benda’s wishes were to be cremated. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Private Inurnment will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Valley County Health System or Grandview Assisted Living Center. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Patricia Louise was born November 5, 1922, at Arcadia, Nebraska to Charles “Otto” and Beulah (Trier) Rettenmayer. She was raised in Arcadia where she also received her education graduating from Arcadia High School in 1940. Pat received Normal Training and taught school at District #7 at Elyria, near Fort Hartsuff.
On July 24, 1942 Pat was united in marriage to Henry Benda at Mankato, KS. While Henry served in the military, Pat lived in Arcadia. Following his discharge in 1945, the couple settled in Ord. Henry and Pat owned and operated Benda’s Clothiers and Cleaners for 39 years. Pat was also a seamstress and did alterations. After their retirement they continued to make their home in Ord and have lived at Grandview Assisted and Independent Living since February of 2009.
The couple wintered in southern Texas and enjoyed camping. Pat also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bowling and playing bridge. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and had served as President.
Survivors include her husband, Henry of Ord; a daughter and son-in-law, Janee and Larry Dlugosh of Lincoln; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Barb Benda of Ord; four grandchildren, Heidi (Dan) Stoick of Watertown, SD, Jadi (Dan) Miller of Lincoln, Scott Benda of Ord and Jason Dlugosh of Lincoln; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Jane Thompson of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Margerite Park and Betty Burdge.
