Ruby Fish 81, of Grand Island, formerly of Ord died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Lakeview Golden Living Center in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jeff Wulf officiating. Mrs. Fish will be cremated following the service a private inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be prior to the funeral on Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ruby Lucille was born March 25, 1929, at Scotia, Nebraska to John and Pearl (Brown) Layher. She was raised in Scotia where she also received her education.
On August 1, 1945, Ruby was united in marriage to Lumir John at St. Paul, Nebraska. To this union four children were born. They lived on a farm in the Olean area of Valley County. Ruby later moved to Ord and then to Grand Island where she worked at the Ordinance Plant.
In 1976, she returned to Ord and married Darrell Fish on June 12, 1976. The couple made their home in Ord. Mr. Fish passed away in 1998. Ruby continued to make her home in Ord until 2003 when she returned to Grand Island.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Ruby enjoyed flowers, plants and playing cards and bingo. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Connie John of Grand Island, Gordie and Linda John of North Platte and Danny and Jennifer John of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Larry Blair of Shreveport, LA; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dusty Perard of Sunnyvale, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darrell Fish, two brothers, Bud and Merlin Layher and two sisters, Gladys Fuga and Millie Bundy.
