Lela Pearle Moninger, 88, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Burwell, Nebraska departed this earth on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Westwood Nursing Home in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday April 30, 2010 at the Assembly of God Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell, Nebraska. Rev. Dave Busch will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Fire Department.
Lela, also know by some as “Toots”, was born October 22, 1921 to Wilfred and Nellie (Maxson) Butcher in Burwell, Nebraska.
Lela graduated from Burwell High School in 1938. She married Roy W. Moninger, Sr. on October 3, 1941 in Taylor, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for local attorneys, doctors and the hospital. She was also secretary/treasurer for the Assembly of God Church for 27 years. She and Roy moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1974 and then returned to Burwell in 1977. Roy Sr. died in January of 1986. Lela continued to live in Burwell until 1998, when she moved back to Corpus Christi, Texas. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, other needle work and spending time with her family. Lela especially enjoyed the company of her cats.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters; Marjorie Taylor of Corpus Christi, Texas and Carole and her husband Rick Sibley of Mount Laurel, New Jersey and a son Robert “Bob” and his wife Pam of Burwell, Nebraska. A brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Everett and Arlene Moninger of Merna, Nebraska. Four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Olson of Merna, Nebraska, Jane Killion of Chappell, Nebraska, Virdena Maggart of York, Nebraska and Viola Sears of Eugene, Oregon. Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Lela was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Roy, Sr. one son, Roy Jr., her parents, six sisters, one brother, and one great grandson.
