William Leonard Dexter, 84, of Amelia, Nebraska died February 17, 2012 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Chambers, Nebraska. Burial will be in the Chambers Cemetery. Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. on Sunday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Chambers Volunteer Fire Department.
Leonard was born February 7, 1928 in rural Holt County, Nebraska to William T. and Emma E. (Burrell) Dexter. After Leonard completed the ninth grade he started ranching with his family.
Leonard married Charlene Kay Graves on March 27, 1968. They continued to ranch in Holt County. They later adopted two children, Mark and Chrystal. Charlene died on December 27, 1989.
Leonard played baseball and enjoyed ranching, and fishing and hunting with his grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by two children, Chrystal and Tim Sweeden of Floral, Arkansas and Mark and April Dexter of Amelia, Nebraska. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Roland and Delores Dexter of Lead, South Dakota and Don and Marlene Dexter of Amelia, Nebraska. Two sisters, Beulah Moses of Amelia, Nebraska and Opal Kirkpatrick of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Raymond Dexter and a sister, Hazel Dexter.
