Zygmunt “Zyg” Stobbe, 93 of Loup City, NE died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Zygmunt S. Stobbe was born June 24, 1918 at Loup City, Nebraska to Joseph and Mary Ann (Szafrajda) Stobbe. He attended rural school District #61 and graduated from the 8th grade. On November 10, 1945 he married Elsie Fredrickson at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. He farmed and had a dairy herd until moving to Loup City in 1973. From 1973 to 1988 he owned and operated Zig’s Liquor. Elsie died January 9, 2007. He was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church and former member of the FHA Loan Committee and Loup City, City Councilman. Zyg loved his family, gardening, fishing, hunting, farming, Yankee baseball, Husker football and his special pet, Toby.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Larry Rademacher of Loup City, NE; Linda and Ron Wardyn of Loup City, NE; Diane and Todd Chitwood of Grand Island, NE; son and daughter-in-law, John and Marylee Stobbe of Omaha, NE; son-in-law, Chuck Dusek of Loup City, NE; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; daughter, Mary Dusek; son-in-law, Mark McCarville; brothers, Ed, Lloyd, Harry, and Al Stobbe; sisters, Elizabeth Czaplewski, Mary Krakowski, Helen Czaplewski, and Irene Sutherland; half brothers, Frank, Ben and Joe Stobbe; half sister, Laura Szafrajda.
