HASTINGS, Neb. The Burwell-Ord High School Bowling team traveled to Pastime Lanes in Hastings last weekend for district competition.
The team faced a strong field of competitors from Donniphan-Trumbull, Kearney Catholic and Wakefield along with one of the most difficult oil patterns know as the Beaten Path applied to the lanes.
The girls varsity competition was neck and neck follow 3 regular games of bowling with Burwell-Ord in third heading into
5 games of bakers. The two-time defending girls state champs dominated the baker format claiming their second district championship title.
The win sends the girls on to Lincoln to compete for a their third straight state title. The team also did well in the singles competition with Sarah Hruza earning fifth, Tori Young placing sixth and Chelsie Casey finishing in tenth.
The boys varsity squad performed well during the competition but finished in second, only 16 pins behind Doniphan-Trumbull.
Jonathan Campbell won his second straight singles title at districts with Preston Wilson finishing in third, Levi Boss taking fourth and Jesse Burson in tenth earning them spots at the state singles competition.
The field at the state team championships will consist of four district winners and four wild card teams.
Burwell-Ord boys varsity is hoping to claim one of the wild card spots when they are announced later this week.
Class C State bowling will be on Feb. 13th with girls starting at 8a.m. at Madsen's Bowling followed by boys at 2p.m. at Sun Valley Lanes.
Team members for varsity are Sarah Hruza, Chelsie Casey, Chantel Bruha, Tori Young, Toni Miller, Tori Studnicka, Jonathan Campbell, Colby Boss, Jesse Burson, Preston Wilson, Levi Boss, Cody McBride, Tyler Mares, Assistant Coach Brian Burson, Assistant Coach Jim Studnicka and Head Coach Kristi Manasil.
