Rehabilitation Project Completed at Papio Dam Site D-4 PDF Print E-mail

LINCOLN, Neb. - Improvements in the Glenn Cunningham Watershed have continued this summer with the rehabilitation of Papio Dam Site D-4 northwest of Glen Cunningham Reservoir in north Omaha.

To restore the flood control and water storage capabilities of Papio D-4, 65,000 cubic yards of sediment were excavated. Additional improvements include two new rock breakwater jetties that will provide fish habitat and improve angler access to the lake. Fish were eliminated from Papio D-4 as part of the Glen Cunningham rehabilitation; the lake will be restocked with  largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish once sufficient water assures their survival.

The project was funded by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Aquatic Habitat Program and the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District, with assistance from the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
