ORD — It’s the midway point of Ord volleyball’s season and it’s been a first half that’s gone nearly perfect.
The Chants have lost only one match and just four sets through sixteen contests. Head Coach Wendy Alexander says one key has been keeping opponents off the board.
“At this point of the season, I’m probably most pleased by our defense,” she says. “I feel like we pick up a lot of balls and we’re a very scrappy team.”
“We have some players who have really developed and are more trusting of the teammates around them.”
Led by six seniors, the Chants have an experienced foundation to lead them into the second half of the year, but Alexander says the younger players have settped into positions and shined through, as well. That may be big for Ord looking at the next couple of games. After a matchup with Boone Central/Newman Grove on September 29th, the squad takes on Kearney Catholic and Doniphan/Trumbull in a triangular.
Those last two enter this weekend a combined 25-1.
“We just love to play great volleyball, to play competitive teams.” Alexander explains. “Our kids are really excited for those matchups coming up and so I look for us to raise our level even higher and just compete.”
“That’s what its about at this time of the season.”
Those contests are part of ten final regular season games for Ord plus the LouPlatte Conference Tournament to set itself up for districts and shot at state.
The matches against Boone Central/Newman Grove, Kearney Catholic and Doniphan/Trumbull can all be heard Regional Radio KNLV.
