BURWELL — For the last several years, sixth graders at Burwell have taken time to learn about the Holocaust and other human rights crises. Now, a monument outside of the elementary school will serve to remind them of what they have learned as they grow up.
Joy Schott helped organize the dedication. “
The monument features a statue with three benches enscripted with messages of peace and freedom. In addition, Schott brought the teacher, whose work was featured in the movie “Freedom Writers” to speak with the kids about global citizenship and how to treat one another.
More speakers may be coming to the school soon. This includes a woman who’s son was killed on 9/11.
