BURWELL — It may still be five years away, but organizers of Nebraska’s Big Rodeo are already preparing for the event’s 100th anniversary.
That’s set for the summer of 2021.
The preparations begin this Saturday, though, with a fundraiser at the Burwell Legion Club. Ronda Weber says a jump on raising money is important to make the 100th anniversary special.
“This is a big deal for our area,” she explains. “When you travel anywhere in the state and even out of state, it always shocks me. People ask me ‘Where are you from?’ and I say ‘Burwell’ and they say ‘Oh Burwell, Nebraska’s Big Rodeo is there. I used to go when I was a kid.'”
As for what folks can expect, the National Rodeo Finals will be on TV of course, with an interactive way for people to get involved. In addition, there will be food and an auction of various items.
Everything gets going at 7:00 PM. Information on how to get tickets is available by contacting any rodeo board member.
