LINCOLN — An effort to re-label poker as a game of skill, rather than a game of chance, has failed in the Nebraska Legislature.
O’Neill Senator Tyson Larson proposed a bill that would allow draw poker and community card games to be licensed and regulated in the state. This would also allow churches and non-profits to host poker tournaments at events where alcohol is served.
Opponents pointed to a description of the Nebraska Attorney General, who labeled poker as a game of chance, Others said gambling harms Nebraska families and communities.
The bill could return this year, but only if a senator or committee designates it as a priority.
