LINCOLN — Lawmakers in Lincoln have rejected a bill that would have required students to receive vaccinations against meningitis.
This comes after some senators argued that it is a serious public health concern. The measure would have required two rounds of meningitis vaccinations for students between seventh grade and age 16.
Opponents say it should be the decision of the parents and there have been too few cases of the disease in Nebraska to garner statewide vaccinations.
It fell four votes short of the 33 needed to break a filibuster and carry it to the next round.
