CENTRAL CITY — After six years on the job, Merrick County’s Sheriff has resigned.
Kevin Campbell announced the decision this week citing that that he has grown tired of a constant battle with a group of people spreading lies.
He has been engulfed in an embezzlement accusation from a former sheriff’s office employee. Media reports say Campbell’s wife, an office manager, was paid $8,900 in December.
The sheriff, who denies taking any money, says his family has been affected over attacks on social media and hopes this makes them stop.
The resignation takes immediate effect and Chief Deputy John Westerman will run the department until a replacement is named.
