LINCOLN — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says deer killed by hunters in Boone County have tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease.
The affliction is almost always fatal and occurs in deer and elk. No human cases have ever been recorded.
It was first discovered in Nebraska in 2000 and has been found in 30 counties in that time, but has not caused significant damage to the deer population.
Other tests from this fall had the disease also turn up in deer killed in Nance County.
