LINCOLN — Lawmakers in Lincoln are discussing whether certain farm equipment should be allowed on roads.
Many farms and ranchers in the state have received fines for driving farm implements on roads. In some cases, these have totaled more than $1,000.
The equipment falls in a legal gray area, which is why a bill has been introduced to solve some of this confusion. The measure would exempt some farm equipment from Nebraska’s weight and load restrictions and bring the rules up to date with the growing size of agricultural equipment.
Opponents argue that the rules are in place to prevent heavy vehicles from causing damage to roads.
