LINCOLN — The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says two people in the state have been afflicted by the Zika virus.
They are from Douglas and Sarpy Counties. The virus is most commonly transmitted through mosquitos and has spread through Latin America.
Most people infected don’t get sick, but there is a link between Zika and a rare birth defect in which babies are born with abnormally small heads.
The Nebraska pair are both described as women in their 20’s, who recently travelled to Zika-affected countries.
Neither was hospitalized.
