HASTINGS — An April 11 sentencing has been set for a Hastings woman accused of stuffing a baby wipe down a toddler’s throat and killing her.
Azudany Serrano-Contreras pleaded no contest and was convicted of negligent child abuse resulting in injury.
That was lowered from a charge of intentional child abuse resulting in death.
Serrano-Contreras was arrested last March after she was babysitting Aliyana Peterson. She told the police she wiped the girls face, turned around to get lotion and found her gasping for air.
The child died two days later.
