LINCOLN — The Education Committee in the Nebraska Legislature began hearing input about Governor Rickett’s property tax relief plan this week.
Two bills have been introduced that would tighten spending and levy limits on local governments along with restricting the assessed growth in farm-and-ranch land property values.
Farmers are in support because they taxes have increased disproportionately compared to the size of the economy. On the other side, schools worry about losing funding for K-12 education.
The committee chairwoman is Senator Kate Sullivan, of Cedar Rapids. She supports the measure, calling it doable and not overly intrusive.
