ORD — The Ord School District is looking at possibly adding a special education teacher, but there are several unanswered questions before that can happen.
In evaluating the school and its needs, Superintendent Jason Alexander said there are a lot of things he would like to see improved, but there’s a specific need in the changing arena of special education.
“Things like autism, Williamson’s syndrome, x-chromosome factor, students that are wheel chair bound, we have more now then we’ve ever had before, meeting their needs that we are required to meet,” he explains.
Among the roadblocks is the Nebraska Legislature. Ord hesitates to make moves until they know what’s going to happen with state funding. Specifically, the bills affecting property taxes.
For now, the district is looking at multiple options. This includes hiring from the outside and using current staff to fill needs.
