LINCOLN — The Nebraska State Board of Education doesn’t think requiring high school seniors to take a citizenship test is the best way to create an informed public.
The measure would make students to answer 70% of questions on the federal immigration exam correctly before graduation.
Supporters say the bill could be administered using free resources, while opponents argue the test requires students to only memorize facts, not use critical thinking.
The board officially took a neutral stance on the proposal.
