LINCOLN — A measure that would have lowered the age requirement to hold Nebraska state offices has stalled in the legislature.
Supporters fell seven votes short of bringing the issue to a vote.
The bill would have applied to all offices. This includes governor, lieutenant governor and the state supreme court. Those all have a requirement of 30, while state senators must be at least 21.
Those in favor argued that the age should be no different than that required of military service, while opponents say 18-year-olds lack the maturity to be eligible for office.
