LINCOLN — Nebraska lawmakers approved a statewide ban on small, flame-powered paper air balloons.
These are made of flame-retardant paper and lifted by hot air from open flames. They are often used for memorials or celebrations.
Legislators deemed these a fire hazard if they land in neighborhoods or fields. Violators will face a $100 fine.
The measure doesn’t affect balloons large enough to carry people. It now goes to Governor Ricketts for final approval.
