GREELEY — A Central Valley student turned his English project into a benefit this week to honor his mother.
Graeme Cuizon put together the pancake feed with all proceeds going to the Vasculitis Foundation at the Sacred Heart Church in Greeley. The fund looks for a cure for Wegener’s Disease, which killed his mother, Jean Hughes, in 2009.
“To me, it was more than just an English project, it was a way to honor my mom for everything she’s done,” Cuizon explains.
There’s a lot of support, especially from a small community,” he adds. “That’s the beauty of being in a small town.”
Wegener’s Disease is a rare disorder which causes blood vessels to become inflamed. It affects less than 200,000 Americans each year.
Cuizon added that 100% of the money gained from the benefit will go to Vasculitis research.
