ELBA — For the 16th time, Elba held its annual Kolache Shoot-Out in Elba over the weekend.
The event is always held on the third Sunday in February and features a bake show, bazaar and live polka music.
The event started as a small fundraiser. but, now, it attracts crowds year-after-year.
“It has just grown,” explains Chairwoman Edna Ingerle. “The first year we had like 150 people and now we can have, if it’s a nice day like today, we might have 800 people here in a town of 200.”
The shoot-out doesn’t only bring the community together. The food, music and environment helps folks embrace their eastern European roots.
