LINCOLN — Advocate groups for immigrants and refugees are criticizing a bill that would require people to take driver’s exams in English.
The proposal’s sponsor says he put it forward to ensure that all drivers can read and understand road signs, but the chairman for the Nebraska Latino Commission says it is an unnecessary barrier for people who just arrived in the country.
Other’s point out that some may speak English, but feel more comfortable taking the test in their native language.
