LINCOLN — Small businesses in Nebraska may soon be subject to the same wage discrimination regulations as their large counterparts.
This after a bill won first-round approval in the legislature.
Nebraska’s Equal Pay Act prohibits wage discrimination based on sex, but it only applies to businesses with 15 or more employees. Those at small organizations must take complaints to the federal commission.
Advocates say keeping these matters at the state level is less expensive, while opponents worry about creating costly legal fees for small businesses.
