LINCOLN — A legislative committee voted this week to reject part of a property tax relief pan by Governor Ricketts and look for alternative solutions.
Lawmakers cut out the part of the plan that would prevent the combined taxable value of the state’s agricultural land from growing by more than 3% annually.
They say this was difficult to explain to the public and didn’t steer the money to where it is most needed.
Committee members are instead in favor of using the average valuation over five years to calculate a property owner’s tax burden in order to slow increases.
