ORD — The Valley County Board of Supervisors got some concerning news this week on a road project south of Ord.
The estimated cost to adjust a railroad crossing came in at $75,243.85 for 64 feet of work. The county originally planned to pay about $50,000 for 47 feet.
The project is on the 811th road off of Route 11 between Knapp Farms and Nebraska Distillers. A survey last year revealed the road was off of its intended line and needed to shift toward the south.
Bids were awarded in November and the plan was to have dirt work completed in May.
The county plans to contact its surveyor, Olsson Associates, and see if it can make sense of these new numbers. The company gave the original $50,000 estimate.
The total cost to Valley County on the project is $230,000 with Valley County Economic Development chipping in $100,000.
