ST. PAUL — This week in St. Paul, the Central Nebraska Prescribed Burn Association will hold its annual meeting.
The group covers Greeley, Howard and Merrick Counties and helps landowners increase the quality of their grasslands through controlled burns.
The Association’s Pete Berthelsen says more than 30 burns are likely to happen in the area this year. “That’s really important because prescribed fire is a natural part of the grassland ecosystem and, most importantly, it is the most cost effective way of controlling cedar trees in our grasslands.” he says.
All are invited to the meeting. Topics included will cover maximizing pasture forage value, controlling grasses and red cedars, and how to gain access to prescribed burn equipment.
It’s set for the St. Paul Public Library on Thursday, March 17th at 7:00 P.M.
