LINCOLN — Despite an effort to postpone it, a bill won first-round approval in the Nebraska Legislature that would give the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission the authority to increase the price of hunting and fishing permits.
The fees were last adjusted in 2003 and supporters of the proposal say the increase will help the commission with operational costs.
The bill passed 39-3, but was opposed by Omaha Senator Ernie Chambers, who wanted his measure banning mountain lion hunting revived first.
