LINCOLN — A bill is set to hit the floor of the Nebraska Unicameral that would prevent faith-based groups from being punished for refusing to work with same-sex foster parents.
The measure passed 5-3 and one of the dissenters says he plans to mount a filibuster to block the measure.
Supporters of the bill say this will ensure Nebraska keeps a strong network of child placement agencies, while opponents worry sweeping religious exemption would allow discrimination in the state’s foster care system.
