LINCOLN — An effort to upgrade Nebraska 911 technology has won first-round approval in the legislature.
Under the measure, people would be able to send 911 operators video and photos with a smartphone.
It’s part of a program called Next Generation 911 and can help emergency dispatchers gather more information about crimes in progress.
The Nebraska Public Service Commission would be in charge of developing a plan and report back to the legislature with recommendations by December 2017.
