LINCOLN — Nebraska lawmakers have begun to debate a right-to-farm amendment in the unicameral.
Supporters hope this would guarantee farming and ranching practices by preventing the legislature from passing new agricultural regulations without a compelling state interest.
Opponents worry that the measure is too vague and want to define “compelling state interest” specifically.
Similar right-to-farm amendments have passed in recent years in North Dakota and Missouri, while Oklahoma is also considering one.
