LINCOLN — Nebraska residents will not have the opportunity to vote on a proposed state constitutional amendment restricting state influence on agriculture, after all.
Lawmakers killed the right-to-farm bill at the behest of the proposal’s sponsor. It would have prevented the unicameral from passing legislation without a “compelling state interest”.
Supporters say this will allow the industry to grow, while opponents worried about vague language in the measure.
Heartwell Senator John Kuehn says he wanted the issue to be discussed in a more dispassionate manner than he saw from an intense debate earlier this week. He also worried about the bill making it out of the short legislative session.
